Sterling Silver necklace with an oval pendant that has real dried yellow flowers preserved in resin. It sits in a black felt jewelry box.

Flower preservation is a special way to hold onto tangible memories of loved ones or important days. These flowers were sent to me by someone who wanted to turn the memorial flowers she preserved from her mother’s funeral years ago into keepsake necklaces. She wanted two necklaces made – one for herself and one for her sister – to which she planned to gift to her sister on Mother’s Day.

From the moment I started working on these pieces, I wanted to create something that would honor their mother and be something they felt proud to wear. Thankfully, the flowers were in excellent condition despite being dried years earlier!

The setting for these necklaces was a bit tricky as I couldn’t get the flowers to look quite right in the pendant mold. I experimented with a few different types of resin to see if I could eliminate more bubbles and did it in two layers instead of one. That way I didn’t have any flowers that snuck to the surface and poked through.

The client wanted a simple look, leaving out silver flakes to let the flowers be the main focus. I love the simple look of it and the different shades of yellow are so interesting!

two custom memorial flower necklaces with yellow flowers and oval resin pendants

This was the first custom necklace set I made using a client’s personal flowers. As with all my jewelry and keepsakes, I strive to ensure each piece feels personal with a minimal and timeless design.

I had some leftover flowers and resin from my experiments, so I made a keychain as a small gift. This was inspired by a gift I received from an Etsy shop called Maidinthewoods when I ordered a breastmilk pendant after my daughter was born. If you’re interested, definitely check out their shop – they do awesome work!
