This custom wedding lace pendant was a challenge. A soon-to-be bride reached out, asking if I could incorporate lace from her late mother’s wedding dress into one of my 8mm necklace pendants. It was deeply sentimental, as her mother had recently passed away.
Honestly, I had never worked with cloth or any material like this in my jewelry before, so I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. To test it out, I experimented with some lace from an old garter. The results were promising—how hard could it be? So, I said yes.
From the moment I began this piece, I felt a strong urge to create something beautiful for her wedding day, a special keepsake of her mother that she could hold close.
The lace was a champagne color, which presented my first obstacle—the bride really wanted a white pendant if possible.
I was determined to make it work. My first attempt was okay, but the lace unexpectedly turned even more yellow in the resin, despite sealing it with Mod Podge.
I decided to do one more test in a small resin mold, trying out different elements and sealants: hydrogen peroxide, sunlight, silver mica powder, white paint, and a different spray sealer. None of these worked well on their own, so I ended up using a combination for the final piece.
The lace had a beautiful design with a small circle that fit perfectly into the 8mm pendant. After carefully cutting it to size, I painted it with white acrylic paint, added a touch of silver glitter, and sealed it. Then, I set it in the sterling silver pendant tray with resin, adding a few silver leaf flakes for an extra bit of shine—it is a wedding day necklace, after all.
This was one of the most challenging jewelry pieces I’ve taken on so far, but I love how it turned out, and I hope the future bride loves it even more.
